Message For Our Patients About The Care Quality Commission (CQC) Report

On Services at Sidley Medical Practice


Following a recent follow up visit by the CQC, the GPs and staff at Sidley Medical Practice were disappointed that the CQC still found the service provided to be below the expected standard.

As a Practice, patient care is our top priority.  We are taking this report, and the issues raised by the CQC, extremely seriously and we are doing all we can to deliver the improvements needed as quickly as possible.

In the published report, the CQC rated the Practice as being good at providing caring services and responding to people’s needs.  As part of the original inspection process, the views of our patients were obtained and they said that they were treated with compassion, dignity and respect.  The CQC saw that staff treated patients with kindness and respect and that the Practice had good facilities and was well equipped to treat patients and meet their needs.

The report, however, still highlights a number of areas related to our processes, procedures and policies where improvement is required.  We are continuing to take urgent steps to address these and to make sure we have all the right policies and processes in place to support your care.

Since the original CQC inspection we have, amongst other things:

  • reviewed all Practice policies;
  • strengthened the measures in place around reporting issues or incidents;
  • reviewed and updated cleaning processes;
  • increased the frequency, and recording of, risk assessments, fire drills, equipment maintenance, etc.;
  • reviewed and updated the staff recruitment, induction and training processes, and
  • reviewed our management structure.

Some of the issues highlighted in the CQC report will take a while to address but we have a plan in place, and the doctors and staff are committed to the work required to achieve the necessary improvements.

We will be keeping you updated about progress we are making in delivering improvements to our services.  We always welcome feedback from our patients, both positive and negative, and would encourage you to let us know how we are doing and what you would like to see done better.


Who are the Care Quality Commission (CQC)? - The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is the independent regulator of health and care services in England and all GP Practices are subject to checks as part of their inspection process.

The surgery is rated as "Requiring Improvement" - what does this mean? - The CQC inspected the Practice on 23rd August 2016 and again on 16th June 2017.   The original report on their findings was published on 11th January 2017, with the follow up report being published on 28th July 2017.  We remain committed to making the improvements required in the original and follow up reports; we have completed some but still have others yet to complete.

Is the surgery closing? - No.  The CQC report highlights some areas where we need to make improvements in order to deliver the best possible care and we are committed to making these improvements for our patients.
